When have you seen our Lord thirsty and offered him a drink of clean water? For almost 2 billion people in the world, daily life revolves around finding water to drink, bathe, and cook with. Often that water is contaminated. Nearly 20,000 people die each day from water-borne illnesses due to a lack of safe drinking water.
Water Missions International has helped make safe water a reality for more than 2.5 million people by setting up water treatment systems in communities around the world.
The organization has also provided help to victims of disasters. A Water Missions team was one of the first groups to respond to the Ebola epidemic in Nigeria. Another Water Missions team was sent to Nepal immediately after the earthquake. The money that our church donated to Water Missions is being used to provide safe drinking water for earthquake victims in Nepal.
Water Missions International is a nonprofit Christian organization based in Charleston, S.C. Their mission is two-fold:
Members of our church will participate in a day-long mission trip to Water Missions International’s headquarters on October 12th. Participants will engage in a variety of volunteer jobs, ranging from sweeping the floor to assembling components for their water treatment systems.
